Lauryn Hill Pleads Guilty in Tax Case
Lauryn Hill just pled guilty to a major federal crime … admitting she intentionally failed to file several tax returns in the past decade — and now the former Fugees singer faces 3 years in prison.
Hill pled guilty today to three counts of failure to file tax returns for the years 2005, 2006, and 2007 — when she earned more than $1.8 million.
When the judge asked if Hill “intentionally and willingly” failed to file the returns, she replied, “Yes.”
In addition to the 3 years behind bars, Hill could be smacked with $75,000 in fines.
Hill was released on $150,000 bail. Her sentencing hearing is set for November.
I have no interest in seeing Tyler Perry’s ‘Witness Protection’

Madea’s Witness Protection review: Protect us from Tyler Perry
As the incredibly awkward title suggests, Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Witness Protection is less a movie than it is an exercise in product branding.
It’s a product that has long passed its sell-by date, not that this matters to writer/director/producer Perry and his unaccountably loyal audience.
This is the seventh issue from the Madea franchise at Perry’s Atlanta film factory, wherein this 6-foot-5 male yet again dons fat padding, wig and glasses to play a sassy African-American matriarch.
Besides the title stereotype, Madea Simmons, Perry also plays her brother Joe, who lives and bickers with her in a large Atlanta home with unmown grass and pink flamingos out front. The unstoppable Perry also plays Joe’s son Brian, a federal prosecutor who’s just trying to do some good.
Any hope that Perry might be running out of ideas or steam is drowned out by the ka-ching! of his mighty Madea cash register, which has only its good nature going for it.
The sole inspiration he needed for this film was a news report about the arrest of Ponzi fund scammer Bernie Madoff. What if Madoff were put under the suspicious gaze of cantankerous Madea in her all-black neighbourhood?

Jackson quickly paid $5,000 cash and destroyed the materials — only to have his tormentor resurface two weeks later in a series of emails, officials said.
Jackson’s wife of 22 years was contacted next with a threatening message regarding the photos.

ESSENCE.com: What’s been going on in your life since you officially left Real Housewives of Atlanta?
SHEREE WHITFIELD: I’ve been spending more time with my kids and my family and planning my next move. I’ve got a couple projects that I’m working on that I’m really excited about. I’ve partnered with a company called Xooma to create a 5 million-pound fitness challenge. We’re trying to help a generation get healthy. I’m really excited about it because this is my realm and what I love.ESSENCE.com: RHOA is so successful. Was it daunting to make the decision to leave?
SHEREE: Well, you know what, I had been thinking about it for a while. We don’t see the show until it airs, or a couple days before it airs. Even when we were taping, there were a few things I wasn’t happy with as far as how I was portrayed. I was going through some really tough things in my life and watching back and seeing how it affected not only my life, but also my kids’ lives, I made a decision that I didn’t want to be selfish. My kids come first.ESSENCE.com: How do you respond to people who say that you were actually fired instead of quitting?
SHEREE: I don’t have a response to that. I could really care less because I know what happened. It was an amicable split. I was ready to move and I don’t need to explain myself to anybody. I am super happy and I’m moving in a different direction. This is what I know. I’m not about just being on a show bickering and fighting with women. There are big parts of my life that weren’t shown that I’m ready for everybody to see.ESSENCE.com: Speaking of behavior on the show, is there somewhere you can take responsibility? The producers do put you in that situation, yes, but it’s still you doing it.
SHEREE: Definitely. You’re being put in situations with people you normally won’t be around. You’re doing the show, but at the same time, you can’t control the editing. It’s crazy, the negative stereotype that Black women get about this when it’s not a racial issue; it’s a gender issue. We’re very emotional beings — women period, not just Black women or White women or Italian women or Asian women. We’re all the same way. But unfortunately, [in] the Black community there’s always a microscope on what we do and that’s not fair because you have other shows like Jersey Shore — they’re getting drunk and fist fighting. Then you have Mob Wives and Housewives of New Jersey — they’re flipping tables. Everybody handles things differently. When you have women of other races doing it, they’re not boycotting them. I don’t think it’s fair the stereotype that they put on African-American women, or females period.ESSENCE.com: So why do you think people react like that to Black women on these shows?
SHEREE: I don’t know. We’re not here to represent the entire Black community.ESSENCE.com: When you say you were going through tough times during the last season, are you talking specifically about your child support issues with your ex-husband Bob Whitfield or your life in general?
SHEREE: In general. Bob and I have been going through a lot since day one, and then the child support thing happened. All the drama on the show didn’t help. I don’t want my daughter thinking it’s okay when you have women constantly — we didn’t fight — but we bickered and we had arguments all the time. You’re put in situations where you’re with people that you wouldn’t normally be hanging out with.ESSENCE.com: How are you and Bob now? Have you worked out the child support issues?
SHEREE: No, we haven’t. One day I hope Bob and I can sit down and become good friends and even better parents to our kids.ESSENCE.com: Are you keeping in touch with any of your co-stars?

Beastie Boys’ Adam Yauch Dies at 47
Adam Yauch, founder of the hip hop trio The Beastie Boys, has died. He was 47.
The rapper, known to fans as MCA, passed away Friday morning (May 4) “after a long bout with cancer,” Global Grind reported.
“Adam was incredibly sweet and the most sensitive artist who I loved dearly. I was always inspired by his work. He will be missed by all of us,” Russell Simmons, co-founder of Beastie Boys label Def Jam, said in a statement.
Adam was treated for a cancerous parotid gland and a lymph node and underwent surgery and radiation therapy in 2009.
He is survived by his wife, Dechen Wangdu, and his daughter Tenzin Losel.

Obama’s George Clooney-Hosted Fundraiser Expected To Pull In $12 Milli!
George Clooney’s high-profile fundraiser for President Barack Obama has sold out, raising an estimated $12 million for the president’s re-election campaign.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, 150 Obama supporters have paid $40,000 each to dine with the president at Clooney’s Los Angeles home on May 10. Those tickets alone raised $6 million. An additional $6 million is expected to come in from individuals who entered a contest that seats winners at the table with Obama and Clooney. The contest, aimed at cultivating grassroots support, asked donors to give as little as $3 to the campaign for a chance at winning two tickets, plus airfare, to the event.

BREAKING: Judge Sets $150,000 Bond for Zimmerman
After George Zimmerman took the stand during his bond hearing and told Trayvon Martin’s parents that he was sorry for the loss of their son, a Florida judge Friday set Zimmerman’s bond at $150,000.
The judge set a number of conditions, including GPS monitoring. The judge said Zimmerman wouldn’t have the opportunity to be released Friday, because his attorney and state authorities needed to hammer out the monitoring and other logistics.
Friday’s bond hearing also included testimony from one of the state’s main investigators in the case, with Zimmerman attorney Mark O’Mara challenging the state’s assertions. Under questioning, the investigator said the state didn’t have evidence to contradict Zimmerman’s account that Martin started the fight that led to the shooting, but he did say evidence did call into question other parts of Zimmerman’s account.

President Barack Obama addressed the killing of Treyvon Martin for the first time this morning, and in personal terms, calling for “soul-searching” not only about the specifics of the case, but regarding the Stand Your Ground law and the “context for what happened.”

When images of presumably gay men dressed like Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) Sorority members surfaced on the Internet, message boards lit up across Black America as folks expressed concern that the men had created their own unofficial chapter of AKA.
Photos of inductees to the Tri Alpha Chapter of MIAKA (Men Interested in Alpha Kappa Alpha) from Texas Southern University and Prairie View A&M were published on a BET.com forum that became a user showdown. Black radio lines buzzed, and Houston’s CBS affiliate ran a story.
The media portrayed the group as a rogue “new” faction of gay men, dead set on infiltrating AKA, the nearly century-old sorority. AKA National stressed MIAKAs had “no official or unofficial standing with the sorority.” MIAKAs claimed foul play. Both parties threatened lawsuits.
Update: June 11, 2012: MediaTakeOut.com just learned that a group of GAY MEN plan on filing a lawsuit against the prestigious Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. You see the GAY MEN believe that they should have the opportunity to pledge the sorority.
For now, the gay men have created a non-sanctioned “sister” sorority to the AKAs . . . and they call it the MiAKAs. The MIAKAs use the same hand signs, the same steps, and the same COLORS as the traditional AKAs.

[Yonkers, NY – January 28, 2012] – To ensure no one is left out of consideration for its Junior Construction Panel search,LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Westchester — opening at Ridge Hill in Yonkers, NY on March 27 — announced today’s submission deadline for the ambassador program has been extended to February 19. For the past three weeks via Facebook, eager Mini Model Builders have submitted mock news reports and videos for the chance to be selected for the Panel.
The Junior Construction Panel will consist of 12 imaginative and energetic children between the ages of 6 and 12 to serve as ambassadors for LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester throughout the year. If selected to the panel, winners will receive a special “box of imagination,” an annual pass to the attraction and work alongside LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester Master Model Builder Mike Tocidlowski, to help finish plans for new LEGO® models, provide input on what features could be added and best of all, give their official approval when the attraction opens this spring.
In addition, the school with the most entries for the Junior Construction Panel will also be entered for a chance to win a visit from Master Model Builder Mike Tocidlowski.
