On Wednesday April 1st , S.O.B.’s presents British soul icon Omar & New Orleans Soultress Teedra come to SOBs for the first time ever on the same stage in NYC. In an impressive double bill the likes of which have not been seen in 2009. in his return to New York City, for what promises to be a funky and spirited performance. This April Fool’s Day there’s no jokes about the talent packed into this night. Both artists will hit the stage with their FULL BANDS.
Before Amy Winehouse, Estelle, and Adele redefined the British neo-soul sound, Omar brought England’s R&B stateside in the 1990’s and built a loyal army of dedicated followers. Now, after the British soul resurgence, Omar comes to S.O.B.’s to remind fans where the movement began.
Omar, who has worked with the likes of Stevie Wonder, Angie Stone, Common and Estelle, has been making music for more than 21 years. Omar’s openness to the artistry of others and to the influence of other cultures has assisted in creating his distinct sound, a sound which draws upon hip hop, funk, Latin jazz. Omar has been the darling of soul lovers since the beginning of his successful 17 year recording career and did not disappoint when he released his album “Sing (If You Want It)” in 2006, to rave reviews.
Joining Omar will be the one and only, Teedra Moses. Probably best known for 2004’s hit single “Be Your Girl”, few are aware that this multi-faceted songstress is also responsible for the hits of some of today’s top artists. Having written for artists such as Mary J. Blige, Tierra Mari and Christina Milian, Moses has steadily been making a name for herself in R&B.
Teedra Moses is making her return to the legendary club after her last performance here on which occasion her stalwart fans showed such dedication. Come join her as she continues to prove why she is capable of longevity, a rarity in an industry where one-hit wonders come and go.
