Chestnut Bar Review

Fried chicken and waffles

Neighborhood: Carroll Gardens
271 Smith St
Brooklyn, NY 11231

Chestnut expanded its bar into this cozy, rustic space, making just enough room for a crowd of 25 to enjoy cocktails made with fresh and seasonal fruit, half a dozen beers on tap and a considerable wine list, as well as a menu of specialized bar-bites from the restaurant’s kitchen. Drop in on Thursdays for wine flights for the price of a single glass.

Chestnut is a little hard to spot because they have no sign, but a defining exterior feature are their pretty, white French doors. It’s a cozy, quaint place with candlelight reflecting from an antique mirror hanging on original brick walls that gives the dining room a comfortable feeling.

Mexican Hot Chocolate and Churros

The menu at Chestnut is Contemporary American and Chef Daniel Eardley runs the kitchen. He grew up in upstate New York on a farm, apprenticed at age 14 and then headed to the Culinary Institute of America and after graduating he cooked, traveled, and made his way back to the city, working at various restaurants and eventually becoming sous chef at Washington Park.
