NeNe Leakes: The Color Purple

Pile on a few different tones, or wear just one plum piece.

It’s a royal color, and the fall fashion shows have shown that it’s hip again. One of the most colorful characters on Bravo’s hit docudrama The Real Housewives of Atlanta, Nene Leakes adores this Empire-waist shift dress (Tory Burch, $395), and at a statuesque 511, she can definitely carry off the cashmere cape (Ralph Lauren Blue Label, $398). “It’s business yet playful,” she says. “Snatch it from your closet, throw it on, and you look fly.” Although she still fumes about the gossip surrounding Housewives (get the dish in her new book, Never Make the Same Mistake Twice), Nene relishes the way the show let her “put myself out there on a great platform for the world to see.”

Sheree talks to Essence again…

ESSENCE.COM: You weren’t lying about the new season being full of drama. Was your family shocked by the confrontation?
SHEREE WHITFIELD: They saw how that guy was enraged and how when he started talking about my mom I hit my limit. My mom called me saying, “Who’s gon’ check me, boo?!” and we all laugh about it. My kids love the show and my oldest daughter’s boyfriend is now saying the phrase, too. When I think back on it, the party planner knew I wasn’t going to continue on with him and wanted to make sure he secured a place on the show for his 15 minutes of fame. He even went on to try to have my independence party without me. I heard he was announcing, “Sheree will be here in 15 minutes” or “she’s right outside.”

ESSENCE.COM: Last week, you and Kim went at it about her being two-faced. Why’d you confront her?
WHITFIELD: It wasn’t about me that day. We were all suppose to get together. I learned how she is and how she will go to all of us and talk about the other, as if we don’t talk and share information. Who knew it would go that far? I knew she wouldn’t admit to it, and of course she hasn’t fessed up. You learn people and deal with them accordingly.

ESSENCE.COM: We saw your ex-husband Bob on the first season. How are things between you two since the settlement?
WHITFIELD: There is no Bob this season. He is supposed to take the kids every other weekend courtesy of the judge. Sometimes I get the call the day before that he can’t make it and I don’t want the kids to be hurt by that. The other problem is that he will leave them with his mom. He knows he hasn’t done what he should and what he can do. I talked to him recently and he says he wants to do better. They are great kids and I want them to see their father.

ESSENCE.COM: That’s understandable. Earlier this year you mentioned that you might write an autobiography. What’s one of the craziest experiences you had as an NFL wife?
WHITFIELD: Well, a lot of things have happened in my life, including getting involved with an athlete. The craziest thing was just that the women have no shame. They will come into your home, eat dinner with you and your family knowing that they are sleeping with your husband. Nothing surprises me anymore, not even on this show.

ESSENCE.COM: Whoa! And what’s the latest on your relationship with the ATL housewives and the cast members of the other cities?
WHITFIELD: Well, I’m not really friends with anyone from Atlanta. Nene and I have a history, and we had never got into an argument until this show and it just escalated. Now we are cordial. Bethenny from “The Real Housewives of New York” called Andy Cohen’s show about me. She can be kind of cruel and was on my side with the party planner situation, which I appreciated. I spend time with Gretchen and Lynn from “The Real Housewives of Orange County” when I am in Los Angeles. I haven’t met any of the Jersey girls, but that should be interesting. They should put all of us in a house and let the drama begin.

Zolciak — who made the call from behind a “Target shopping center” — tells the dispatcher, “I was filming my show … and I was choked by one of my cast members.” Leakes has denied any wrongdoing.

Zolciak told TMZ she’s looking into her legal options — which include pressing assault charges.

Lisa Wu-Hartwell another ATL housewife loses her home

TMZ has learned Hartwell and her husband, former Oakland Raiders linebacker Edgerton Hartwell, were booted from their multi-million dollar Georgia mansion last week — after the couple defaulted on their loan and the bank sold it shortly after.

“Hartwell’s rep tells us the couple was in talks with the lender to restructure the loan because the home had lost value — but that failed. They originally bought the place for $2.9 mil back in 2007 — but the bank only got $1.9 mil when they resold it this month.”

The rep says “Ed and Lisa are fine. They have settled in their [new] home, that sits on 10 acres and they OWN it!”

“Funny how Nene likes to throw jabs even after us meeting up. “Blame it on the alcohol?” I’ve known Nene for a while. We were never that close for me to share any type of secret or sensitive info with her because I already knew how she couldn’t hold water. So keep fishing, darling.

The Kim-tervention was something I’m not proud of….she sooo wasn’t worth it! I knew going in that Kim wouldn’t admit to any of the lies she was telling either to me, Nene or Lisa, but did it really matter? Kim had been calling each of us separately and telling a ton of lies on the other. What really mattered to me were the lies she began to tell about me (most of which were not shown), her screaming lies at me in the restaurant and her jumping up yelling and pointing her finger in my face. Enough was enough! At this point it had nothing to do with Nene, Gregg or anyone else. It was the random lies she began to say about me, trying to defame my character. One of the lies she told Nene and that was shown was that I was writing bad checks to Neimans. Kim claimed her shoe guy at Neiman Marcus told her that I had been bouncing checks there! Are you kidding me! If I bounced a check at Neimans, do you think they would continue to take my checks??? That’s one of the few places I frequent here. Obviously, she has a problem and knows that I know – why did I even bother.

When I sat at FAB with both Sheree and Nene, I felt attacked because so much was being said that “I” said, when I haven’t even spoken to Sheree since last year. I will say it again, Nene’s hubby Gregg is FANTASTIC, level headed and genuine. I have NEVER nor would I ever talk badly about Gregg. Nice try Sheree.

I wish I had NEVER made the comment about my daughters at the table, but as I’m sure you noticed when it gets HEATED I am subject to say anything! What I said wasn’t cool and I will never say anything like that again. I was just trying to make the point that I was willing to put the most important people in my life on the line to prove that I was telling the TRUTH – I wanted Nene to understand the intensity of my honesty.

I saw that Lisa talked about me on the show…again. Who even cares about Lisa anyway? Every time she comes on I fast forward. B-O-R-I-N-G. Has she started another business? LOL!
